Brett Meyers – Founder & Executive Director
In May 2011, Brett founded Nourish Now while working as the General Manager at Jades Vending Corporation. Prior to working at Jades Vending, Brett studied food safety, nutrition and culinary techniques at L’Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, MD and became a certified Food Service manager by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. As a native of Montgomery County, Brett has volunteered with many different non-profits over the years.
While working in the food industry he saw how much food was wasted each day by the restaurants he managed and he knew he had to do something to make a change in how the surplus food was handled. It was this thought, and the desire to make a difference in his community, that led him to create Nourish Now. Brett is the founder and Executive Director of Nourish Now and works hard each day to recover as much surplus food as possible and bring it to those who need it most.
Thomas Albero – Chairman of the Board
Tom currently is the President & CEO of Alliance Material Handling, Inc., a 100% employee owned forklift dealership. He is a CPA and CCM. A resident of Maryland for 40 years, Tom graduated from Bowie High School and earned a BS in Accounting from the University of Maryland. He was a former CFO of a national professional services organization offering both technical consulting services and project-based full lifecycle solutions to rapidly growing organizations and Fortune 1000 companies in the mid-tier market. He also has extensive experience in technology, from several software firms and a large computer components distribution company.
Tom spends much of his free time volunteering with kids as he coaches multiple teams in basketball, baseball, softball and ice hockey.
Lisa Goldberg – Vice President
Raised in Rockville, MD, Lisa attended Magruder High School and graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in Sociology and a minor in Business. Lisa is the owner of a successful local company, The One Consulting, LLC, which focuses on personal relationship services and lifestyle improvement. Lisa actively supports many charitable organizations including Men Against Breast Cancer, Pink Jams, Mutts Matter, Becky’s Fund and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Lisa is also actively involved in fund raising for Mary of Nazareth Catholic School. Lisa learned her compassion and devotion to people from her father who was a Full Colonel and Chief of Orthodontics at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital in Washington, DC. She worked side by side with him for many years, transitioning into civilian practice, donating free services to those in need. Lisa uses her experience, knowledge, and strong work ethic to assist Nourish Now in marketing and development.
Jack Bell – Treasurer
Jack graduated from Drake University with a BS in Accounting. From 1985-1992 Jack was an Audit Manager for Arthur Andersen in Chicago, IL. He continued his career at Arthur Andersen in Budapest, Hungry until 1997, when he became a partner for Arthur Andersen working in Budapest, Hungry and Bucharest, Romania. He became a Country Managing Partner for Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young in Croatia from 2001 to 2005. Jack moved back to Budapest from 2005 to 2007 and worked as the Head of Audit Function, directing a staff of over 120 professionals. From 2007 he began working for Deloitte Central Europe in Budapest as a Lead Client Service Audit Partner, responsible for organization’s largest audit client account within Central Europe. Jack has been a leader in the non-profit community for many years. He was a board member of the United Way in Hungary from 2008-2009 and served on the United Way Supervisory Board in Hungary from 2009-2012. Jack currently resides in the Lakelands, Maryland and has been extremely active in helping the community since his return to the States.
Zach currently serves as the Client Services Director at newBrandAnalytics (nBA), a start-up in Washington, DC that provides social media sentiment monitoring for clients in the Lodging and Restaurant industries. After earning his BA in American Studies at Yale University, where he ran varsity track, and his MBA from the Wharton School of Finance, Zach first worked as the Chief of Staff to the Office of the Chairman at the Sears Holdings Corporation and then as the Principal of Affiliate Sales & Marketing at Network Solutions. While in New York, Zach spent four years working with The Mentoring Partnership of New York, a non-profit organization that provides training and technical assistance to more than 150 mentoring programs. Zach also co-founded the Young Professional Advisory Board and served as a board member for the Knights Trust, Inc.
After moving to Montgomery County Zach again found many organizations to volunteer his time. Zach served as Nourish Now Board Chairman from 2011 to 2013 and remains an active and dedicated member of the board.
Originally from Montreal, Canada, Chris moved to Maryland in 2011 with his wife Roxanne. Chris studied finance at the John Molson School of Business and worked in real estate lending and sales where he quickly discovered his passion. Chris is the Executive Officer at WEI Mortgage Corporation, a nationwide direct lender managing and developing the growth of a top 100 team.
Since moving here, Chris has volunteered with Youth Leaders International, a non-profit organization that helps young adolescents visit the Washington area from foreign countries. Chris is honored to serve the Nourish Now Board where he brings experience and new ideas to help the growth of Nourish Now in its efforts to fight hunger.
Michael S. Gordon
Michael is the Executive Vice President of Accelerent, a business development platform headquartered in Washington, DC. Prior to Accelerent, Michael spent the majority of his career in commercial real estate as a retail broker in the Greater Philadelphia Region, as well as, a Senior Vice President of Real Estate for Quiznos Corporation, where he was responsible for franchise sales, real estate and site selection on a regional and national basis.
Michael is originally from West Philadelphia and has lived in Northern Virginia for the last 8 years. He lives with his wife Jennifer and their daughter Alexa. He also has two daughters, Alexandra and Isabelle, who reside in Philadelphia. He attended West Virginia University and in his spare time enjoys playing in both ice hockey and baseball leagues, tennis, and spending time with his family.
Meredith Heller received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from University of Maryland and her MBA at Loyola University Chicago. After practicing as a Registered Dietitian, she left the field of Nutrition for the Advertising world, although her passion for food, nutrition, and food service never left her heart. Meredith was VP of Digital at philly.com, and has been Head of East Coast Sales at Quantcast since 2013.
Meredith is originally from New Jersey. She lived and worked in Chicago until 2006, before moving to Rockville, Maryland, where she currently resides with her husband and two daughters.
A native of Montgomery County, MD Steve attended Cabin John Middle School and Winston Churchill High School. He graduated from the University of Indiana Kelley School of Business with a Bachelor degree in Science, Marketing and Management. Steve also received a Corporate Executive Leadership Certificate at Georgetown University. Steve worked as a Senior Account Director and Group Sales manager at Custom Publishing in Chicago, IL from 2001 to 2008. In 2008 to the present, Steve currently works as the Vice President/Group Sales Manager/Senior Account Director for News America Marketing, INC, A Division of News Corporation. Steve has always been an active member of his community, giving his time and energy and is excited about working towards alleviating food insecurity and food waste with Nourish Now.
Matthew Levin-Stankevich is the Systems Sales Manager at Alliance Material Handling. A resident of Washington DC where he is active in the community and has lived for 5 years. He received an MBA with a focus in strategic planning from Canisius College in Buffalo NY. Prior to Alliance Material he served an 8 year career with United Way as the former Managing Director of Resource Development for the National Capital Area United Way. He was responsible for raising over $30 million dollars annually from individual, corporate, and foundation support and had a team of 22 fundraisers and staff that helped to achieve this community goal. In September 2014 he joined Alliance Material Handling team and now oversees all aspects of the Systems Division (warehouse integration and equipment) and is charged with developing a department growth plan that transitions the systems revenue from a $3 million dollar division of Alliance to a $20 million division in the next 10 years.
Matthew spends much of his time volunteering with the community to improve education, health, and veteran services through his board and volunteer service. You can find him active in organizations such as Luke’s Wings, Buffalo State Alumni Association, DPAF, and now Nourish Now.
As an IT Portfolio Manager at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Jeff brings over 15 years of industry knowledge to his positions at both Ronald Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport. A lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Jeff graduated from Richard Montgomery High School, the University of Maryland with a BA in Behavioral and Social Sciences, and he is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Information Assurance at the University of Maryland, University College. Jeff not only brings his technical knowledge to help Nourish Now’s mission of ending hunger but his passion for helping others, which grew when volunteering through Boy Scouts of America as a youth. Whether volunteering at local shelters, national organizations like Susan G. Komen, or starting campaigns at work to raise money for different charities, Jeff has always been dedicated to helping those in need, which he now continues at Nourish Now.
